Tesla Expands! Showrooms To Arrive in Mumbai & Delhi!

Tesla India

Tesla is getting closer to selling electric vehicles in India with plans to establish shops in New Delhi and Mumbai.

According to those who understand the situation, Tesla is getting closer to its long-delayed intentions of distributing its electric cars in India by choosing sites for two showrooms in both the towns of New Delhi and Mumbai.

After postponing plans to enter the Indian market in 2022, the American automaker has been looking for showroom premises in India since late last year with the goal to begin sales in the third-largest auto market in the world.

Last week, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in the United States to talk about technology, mobility, and space.

According to the two individuals involved with the talks, who asked not to be named because the matter is confidential, Tesla has chosen to acquire space for a showroom in the Aerocity, a neighborhood close to New Delhi’s international airport.

The Aerocity neighborhood is home to hotels, shops, and headquarters for multinational companies.

According to the first source, the automaker has selected premises in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex, a business and retail district close to the city’s airport. According to the source, the stores in Delhi and Mumbai will each have an approximate floor area of 5,000 square feet (464.52 square meters).

Although the dates of the outlets’ openings are still pending, the first individual stated that Tesla will run the stores and that the company intends “to sell imported EVs in India… These offers are for showrooms, not service centers.”

A letter asking for comment from Tesla was not immediately answered.

This week, the business also advertised 13 mid-level positions in India, comprising some customer service managers and shop managers.

India has long been criticized by Mr. Musk for imposing hefty import taxes on electric vehicles (EVs) of up to 100%. Local industrialists have opposed Tesla’s numerous attempts to ease up on them, believing that its arrival could jeopardize their EV plans.

Last week, US President Donald Trump criticized India’s high auto tariffs while also reaching an agreement with Prime Minister Modi to move toward an early trade agreement and end the tariff dispute.
