Real Madrid defeats Dortmund in a 3-2 classic as Mbappe scores an amazing goal to help the Los Blancos into the Club World Cup semi-final.

In an exciting club world cup quarterfinal match, Kylian Mbappe made magic as he assisted Real Madrid to narrowly pip Borussia Dortmund in a stopper of match 3-2 at MetLife Stadium.

Early in the match, Madrid showed dominance and their young star Gonzalo Garcia scored a goal in the 10th minute of the match. Fran Garcia, increased the lead ten minutes after to the score of 2-0 and Madrid did not seem to have any problem under the glaring Spanish sunshine, where the temperature reached 30 C (86 F).

However, Dortmund Borussia was not going to give up. The goal by Maximilian Beier three minutes into stoppage time renewed the hopes of Dortmund, making way to an exciting closing. Mbappe, who was substituted at the 67th minute in his convalescent period, grabbed the headlines immediately. Only a minute later, Dortmund scored Mbappe rose to make a spectacular bicycle kick on a cross, put two goals between Madrid again, and the crowd of 76,611 fans went crazy.

The play was not yet finished though. Serhou Guirassy scored a penalty in stoppage time after being pulled down in the box by Dean Huijsen who was also red-carded to give Dortmund the lead. The game slumped with 10 men on the Madrid side but Dortmund still pushed to draw a goal but was saved by the giant goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois of Real. Madrid has entered the semifinals even though he saved the goal by Marcel Sabitzer in the last minute due to his incredible performance.

Madrid is now ready to play the Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and the other semi final will be between Chelsea and the Brazilian club, Fluminense.

In youngster Gonzalo Garcia, who has risen to fill in the gap left by Mbappe, the team has been more than adequately compensated by his absence. He has scored two goals in the past three matches and as such is the highest goal scorer in the tournament that has four goals. To see Mbappes back in the scoresheet in such a spectacular manner will come as a relief to the Madrid populace at large considering his recent encounter with acute gastroenteritis.

The tribute started with a moment of silence before the match in respect of Liverpool player Diogo Jota whose brother Andre Silva lost his life in a car crash.

The day was emotive, there was talent, there were moments that cannot be forgotten, typical Real Madrid on the world map.
