India Pushes for More Jobs With Employer Support

India unveils new hiring scheme

India unveils new hiring scheme giving ₹3,000/month to employers and social security aid for recruits to address rising unemployment.

To drive the growth of India in future is a great task for this generation. To realize this, they must have the right type of jobs, the ones that increase productivity levels and provide tangible income. With a great deal of disappointment, there are not many of such opportunities. While India’s GDP numbers might look solid on paper, they aren’t translating into enough jobs on the ground. Reliable data on unemployment is lacking—and in countries like India, such statistics rarely tell the full story anyway. But it’s difficult to ignore the truth.

The government is well aware of the problem. A new employment-linked incentive program was just approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet in response. Under this plan, the government will contribute to a new hire’s social security for one month and give employers ₹3,000 monthly per new recruit. This assistance will last for two years, or four years if the job is in manufacturing. The government thinks this program has the potential to generate millions of employment, despite the low rewards. The challenge remains vast—but this move is a step toward addressing the urgent need for employment.
