The tensions between India and Pakistan grew stronger after terrorists conducted a deadly strike in Jammu and Kashmir. Two foreign visitors were among the twenty people killed when gunmen attacked a gathering of tourists in Pahalgam. India faces nationwide anger following this terrifying event which has brought deep sadness to the entire nation.

The swift action of Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi brought him to inspect the situation firsthand as he evaluated regional security readiness. The government shows both dedication to the safety protection of their citizens and tourists by sending its top military commander to the region.

India implemented multiple decisive diplomatic measures along with strategic moves following the assault. International relations between India and Pakistan are under pressure because India suspended the Indus Water Treaty along with closing down the Attari-Wagah border and expelling all Pakistani diplomats and revoking current Pakistani national visas.

Pakistan arrested a soldier from the Indian Border Security Force on suspicion of crossing the border after the Shimla Agreement, which had been negotiated between India and Pakistan in the past, was formally revoked. Both Pakistan and India have accelerated their actions that caused regional concerns about potential military hostilities.

The current situation continues to be tense because Pakistani armed forces have activated their highest state of readiness. The international community stands by as the region gets ready for potential future developments while waiting for peaceful de-escalation to happen.
