Air India Flight AI-171 Crashes After Takeoff in Ahmedabad

Over 200 people died in the tragic crash of an Air India flight in Ahmedabad. One of India’s worst aviation disasters. NSG recovered the black box from the wreckage.

An Air India flight to London tragically crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon. Sadly, more than 200 lives were lost in this disaster, which is one of the worst aviation events in India’s history.

Flight AI-171, carrying 242 people—232 passengers and 10 crew—took off from Ahmedabad Airport at 1:17 PM. Just 30 seconds later, it lost altitude and crashed into the BJ Medical College and Hospital in Meghaninagar. The impact caused chaos and started a huge fire visible from miles around.

The flight had 169 people from India, 53 from the UK, 7 from Portugal, and 1 Canadian. Unfortunately, Union Minister CR Paatil confirmed that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among those who died in this tragedy.

Emergency teams got to the scene fast. Firefighters pushed through heavy smoke and rubble, and the National Security Guard (NSG) managed to grab the flight’s black box, which could help figure out what caused the crash.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi quickly got in touch with Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu to express his sincere condolences for the loss of lives and asked them to go to Ahmedabad to help with the rescue mission. PM Modi is also expected to arrive in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Home Minister Amit Shah reached out to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to see if local officials were working together. Emergency services, hospitals, and rescue teams are all ready and on standby.

While the country is mourning, many families are anxiously waiting to hear about their loved ones. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this tough time.
